Nazia Hassan’s Boom Boom – The Biddu Experience

Thanks to my father, I grew up listening to Nazia Hassan’s songs for atleast 10 years of my very early life. He had bought a cassette in 1980 or 81 along with plenty of others, and I ended up liking this cassette alone, and I used to play it back and forth and spend hours and hours listening to the tape, rewinding, fast forwarding, and torturing the cassette completely. I still have that cassette with me, an old battered cassette, that I will keep for ever. Now I have got MP3 of all her songs, and I have got great ratings in various torrent sites for seeding a torrent with a collection of her song. Im a good DJ you know, better than my son I should say.

The song below, is a remix by biddu, the original composer of the song, in 1995. I used to watch this song too over and over again when I was in my 9th or 10th standard. Watch the video below, the remix, and the one following, which is the original stage version.

It appears that the song Made in India was originally made by Biddu for Nazia Hassan, but she being an extreme political person, and with the cross border problems at the peek at that time, she refused to accept the song, mainly because it said Made in India, and Alisha Ahinoy ended up singing it. Too bad she forgot that it was in an Indian movie that she got launched :D . No regrets, she was an angel, and god called her back early.

Lata Mangeshkar, known as the “Queen of Hearts.” Lata’s biographer Raju Bharatan poses the following question: “Were there, then, no serious challenges to Lata Mangeshkar in her long singing career?” The answer surprises: “…there was a happening in Lata’s life and times that made a mere teenager a near despair for her. That teenybopper was Nazia Hasan.”
