USD Apprising
by Ravi on Oct.01, 2008, under General
The US economy is falling. They are holding meetings there to find ways to fix the issue and try to possibly save the country from disaster. But the USD price against Indian rupee is shooting UP. Straight up. About untill 2 months ago, the USD price was INR 39, and now it is 47.5. Looks like in a few weeks it will cross the 50 rupee mark after a long time.
Good for people who do export of goods or sell services and get paid in USD. But what about people like me who buys services from the US? We have to pay more now, and unless we get business from outside India things will be quite difficult for us.
Goods such as weight loss pills will always sell. But what about the extra GB that people might want to host their blogs? Definitely people will look for options to cut costs, and thats a loss of business for us. Clearly means that we need to bring in more clients and again have to face the costs of client acquisition. Gonna be a real tough job.
Loss of Profits
by Ravi on Sep.01, 2008, under General
Several people tell me these days that they thing that I have been making too much of money from blogging. But I never look at it that way. If only I had been a full time blog monetizer, I would have made lots more, and am not at all happy with the pocket money, if you can call it so, from my blogs. If a waiter or a barman make $100 a week from a few blogs it might be good for them, but for me its almost nothing.
Well, I could definitely earn more if I spend more time on it, say perhaps $2000 a month, but trust me, it is really a boring job. Nothing bigger than the job of a Data Entry computer operator. Just read stuff somewhere, and write them on your blog, and get a paid post, and write about it. It is boring, and you will get fed up very soon. And it is not a challenging job. So fi you are just a bloody clerk, you could do that, But I dont think that I would be able to do much of that anymore.
By the way, I just spend a few minutes this afternoon thinking of all the opps that I have missed in the past few months, and that counts up to a few thousand dollars. I do remember the names fo the websites who wanted a blog article writen on them, but as payperpost says, I think it is unethical to contact them and get the opps for myself. After all, they have been paying me all these days and giving me oppertunities.
In blogging it is just loss of profits, and not really a loss. I am not loosing any money from my pocket, and the $10 that I pay for the hosting for my blogs every month, I dont really mind that.
Blogger to Wordpress
by Ravi on Aug.22, 2008, under General
The one thing that google could not beat was bloggers. Though it has created the page rank strategy, which is something that assigns a rank to the quality of the blog, its popular website blogger.com is not very popular these days. Only loosers who dont know how to create a blog and stuff usually go to blogger.com, and wiser people like me stick to wordpress scripts hosted by oneself. I dotn go to wordpress.com, but I download the scripts from wordpress.org, and have it hosted on my own server pointed by own domain.
Well, Mymo.in is a multiuser blog just like wordpress.com where people can actually come over and signup for their own blogs. What did you think I am doing in Pondicherry? Just sitting around and taking massage therapy all the while? I am contributing a good amount to blogging myself, and helping people to get their own blogs in different domains than the boring so called popular ones.
The Risk of Running a wpmu site
by Ravi on Aug.19, 2008, under General
Well, I was curious, and made a few wpmu websites. On top of every page on this blog you will find links to the popular wpmu sites that I have got. It has got a fair number of users, not over 3 digits yet, but just yesterday I realized that most of the blogs that are created in those multi user sites are spam.
One good way is to staff someone and get your blog monitored and check every new blog registration and repeatedly check all blogs for bad content. Well, it is hard. What on world is easy? Nothing. If you think you can’t do it, sent your traffic to mymo.in, and I’ll host their blogs for free.
