Blu Ray taking the Industry by storm

by Ravi on Oct.02, 2008, under General

DVDs came out around 8 years ago. And the price of the DVD was more than what it is for the Blu Ray disk today. Well, a high def movie on a 25 gb disk is a big thing today though it might become as common as a dvd as it is today. A bland writable DVD disk is available for about 20 cents in India, which is about Rs. 10 here. Imagine how cheap it would be in China and what the production cost for it would be.

Blu Ray players will not work very well in old fashioned CRT tvs. You will need a High Def plasma TV or atleast a 50 inch or above LCD tv. Or a computer with a decent monitor. And the ordinary coaxial cable will not do to carry the signals to the tv, and you will certainly need a HDMI cable if you do not want loss of quality of the image.

USD Apprising

by Ravi on Oct.01, 2008, under General

The US economy is falling. They are holding meetings there to find ways to fix the issue and try to possibly save the country from disaster. But the USD price against Indian rupee is shooting UP. Straight up. About untill 2 months ago, the USD price was INR 39, and now it is 47.5. Looks like in a few weeks it will cross the 50 rupee mark after a long time.

Good for people who do export of goods or sell services and get paid in USD. But what about people like me who buys services from the US? We have to pay more now, and unless we get business from outside India things will be quite difficult for us.

Goods such as weight loss pills will always sell. But what about the extra GB that people might want to host their blogs? Definitely people will look for options to cut costs, and thats a loss of business for us. Clearly means that we need to bring in more clients and again have to face the costs of client acquisition. Gonna be a real tough job.

Airtel Mobile Loosing its touch

by Ravi on Sep.19, 2008, under General

For some time now, airtel has been the top notch player in the mobile phone industry in India. But god knows what the hell, airtel too is loosing touch. Every one else sucks, and though I use vodafone just for the name of it, I am not really happy with it.

What will happen if all mobile companies keep their networks busy and stop providing decent services to the people around? Who would serve the country with a billion people and a trillion mobile phone connections? Maybe there would be a new player who would be soon coming in to take over all these service providers and become a monopoly.

Addiction to mobile phone has affected almost everyone in the world, particularly Indians, and no drug rehabilitation center will be able to help them out, as even in a drug rehab you find people talking on mobile phones.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, and 6 apples a day take the iron smith away

by Ravi on Sep.04, 2008, under General

It is quite odd for a computer man to know iron smiths personally, but I happen to know one, and he has got his workshop on my way to the office, near a shop where I buy cigarettes every morning. Some times I smoke my first cigarette of the day there, and this guy comes up and chats with me.

He has been telling me how much he loves apples. Maybe he just wanted to show off to me that he really can afford an apple a day. India you know. This morning surprisingly the shop was closed, and that appeared very strange to me. I asked the shop keeper from whom I buy cigarettes every day where the ironsmith has been today, and he replied that he has been admitted to a hospital as he had eaten 6 apples yesterday and breathed in 1 apple seed into his lungs and is now caughing his lungs out. This couldn’t have been helped with any diet pills, but still he should have used some for all the apples that he ate, so that now atleast he would have the strength to cough out the seeds that he breathed in.
